Here is what Global Home sent…Let us count the ways…

For one, Philadelphia is a city of vast diversity with a stunning backdrop of both historical and contemporary ideas and inspiration. From city hall to the new comcast center, the inner-city to the outer suburbs, Philadelphia is a city of deep tradition and loyalty but without question is an emerging leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Our company is one successful example of ALL the things that make Philadelphia an ideal place to run a business. To save space and time here is an example of what we have taken advantage of:

*One of the top 5 housing markets in the country and one whose real estate values have stayed in tact
*Access to customers in Philadelphia as well as the rest of PA, NJ, DE
*A mayor (Michael Nutter) and former mayor and current govenor (Ed Rendall) who whole-heatedly support business and “green” initiatives
*A work force that is in my mind what silicon valley is to programmers, philadelphia is to graphic and creative artists (per capita)
*An area where a business like ours, founded in 2001 can rise to be a top 300 home remodeler in the county and who has doubled since last year, even in a down market thanks to consumer confidence in “green” products such as metal roofing, solar thin film and more!

Here’s more proof:

http://greenisglobal.net/philadelphia%E2%80%99s-newest-teammate-thin-film-solar

And it appears they’re going to be successful.

A drought has visited California for the past few years, which is obviously a problem for wineries, which use thousands of gallons of water per day. So going green and conserving water is smart in a financial and ethical sense, but Cade is going beyond that… they want to conserve everything!

- Solar panels cover 60% of the roof, providing more energy than is needed for 9 months out of the year

- Steel used in the building was recycled (they even have a banquet table made out of a submarine hull!)

- The concrete is 30 percent fly ash (recycled ash from coal-fired power plants)

- Insulating material is shredded old blue jeans sprayed into the walls!

Incredible, but true! Next time you find yourself at your local wine store, make sure you look for the green stuff… but until then, check out the full article at ABC News Online.

To today’s consumers green really is “the new black.” Being environmentally conscious is trendy—and rightly so. It may be the best, most forward-thinking trend we’ve had in decades.

To some, “going green” is just a fad—green cleaning product here, a reusable grocery bag there. It’s hip and it’s new and soon it will be out with tomorrow’s non-recyclable trash. To other consumers, however, being green has become an irreversible way of life—a commitment to preserving our environment for future generations.

Metal roofing may be of special interest to consumers serious about being green. Let these consumers know that metal roofing saves energy year-round, decreasing air-conditioning needs in the summer and heating in the winter, reducing both harmful greenhouse gas emissions and household electricity bills.

Unlike traditional roofing materials such as asphalt, slate, clay or wood shingles, metal roofing is made from recycled materials, saving landfill space and the energy needed to convert raw materials into construction-grade metals. Its astounding durability is green as well since metal roofing needs far less repair than traditional roofing, significantly decreasing the need for replacement parts.

Although metal roofing can last several lifetimes, green consumers can rest assured that should it ever be removed, it is 100 percent recyclable. They might also be interested to know that metal roofing can often be installed directly over old roofing, preventing tons of asphalt and rubber roofing from ending up in landfills.

It’s true that the little things we do for our environment add up: recycling household items such as cans and bottles, choosing to walk or bike instead of driving, switching to energy-efficient light bulbs. Sometimes, however, one decision—such as the choice to install metal roofing—can make a huge impact on the planet…

Your windows provide you with a view to take in, but can they provide you with a view of the future? Marvin’s new Infinity windows can… and the future looks incredible!

We’re not just talking about the future of window materials, led by Marvin’s patented acrylic-coated Ultrex framing technology and their LoĒ³-366 glass panes – which reflect 95% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. We’re also talking about a cleaner, healthier, more efficient future due to Marvin’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and product design.

The Ultrex fiberglass and glass panes used in Infinity windows are made from partially recycled materials. In addition, the Ultrex uses between 39-80% less energy to produce than vinyl/wood framed competitors! But Marvin Windows’ commitment to going green doesn’t stop there. Just take a look at some of their recycling and waste reduction efforts:

They fully recycle all corrugated cardboard from vendor shipments, diverting all usable cardboard from the plant waste streams. A local recycling company picks up three 3 yard containers of cardboard twice a week.

They separate their polyethylene waste and ship it to the Recycle/Re-Use department at Integrity. Previously, polyethylene films went to the landfill as waste, today between Infinity and Integrity more than 4,000 pounds per year are recycled.

They recycle sheet steel, prepared steel and metal banding, realizing a 75% energy savings. Currently, Infinity and Integrity combined recycle 3,348 pounds of this metal per year.

Currently, between Infinity and Integrity they collect and recycle nearly 6,000 pounds of aluminum per year. This is fantastic because producing recycled aluminum uses 95% less energy than producing aluminum from scratch.

As you can see, Marvin is dedicated to keeping things green and efficient on both their end and your end. Now might be a good time to improve your home with highly-functional and beautiful Infinity windows, so check out the company that stands behind their promise of a Global product. For a free estimate call 888-234-2929

Metal Roofs have long been known to “last a lifetime” and have been made popular on both historic and contemporary homes. Our metal roofing blog is dedicated to sharing the green benefits of metal roofing, so here it is:

Sustainability

Metal roofing’s durability can virtually eliminate the need to use future raw materials to produce roofing. Metal roofing is unaffected by the hot-cold/wet-dry weather cycles that break down other materials. Other roofing materials, however, are heavily affected by weather extremes. In addition, metal roofing is known for its ability to hold up against other weather forces—including windstorms, hail, ice, and snow.

Recycled Content

Most metal roofs have recycled content ranging from 25% to 50%. This is in stark contrast to conventional roofingshingles, which have much shorter lives and use oil-based products as their primary raw material.

Recyclability

While metal roofing is known for its extremely long life, it does have the added benefit of being 100% recyclable if it is ever removed in the future, perhaps as part of a building renovation.

Low Weight

Depending on the product chosen, metal roofing has a weight that is from 1/3 to as little as 1/8 the weight of conventional roofing shingles! Each year, about 20 billion pounds of old composition roofing shingles are dumped into U.S. landfills. Metal Roofing is also easily transported to job sites!

Product Safety

Metal roofing and the finishes used on it are inert, safe materials that do not pose a health risk. Furthermore, metal roofing is noncombustible, which provides additional fire protection for homes.

Energy Efficiency

Metal roofing is rapidly gaining acceptance as a very energy-efficient material. Property owners have reported energy savings of as high as 20% and even more after installing metal roofing. Cool coated metal roofing can display solar reflectance of at least 65% and thermal emittance of 80%. This can have a tremendous impact on energy usage by reducing air conditioning costs and the smog and pollution that are
